Teleworking as an inducer of productivity increases and cost rationalization: an empirical application in the Ministry of Justice and Public Security

Abstract

The objective of this article is to evaluate the implementation of telework, within the scope of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, in relation to cost reduction and productivity increase. The specialized literature presents benefits for organizations and teleworkers, relating them to the increase of productivity and the rationalization of costs, as well as the satisfaction of the teleworker. The data analyzed comes from evaluations made by the Management Committee of the organ, in the period 01/09/2016 to 08/31/2017. Preliminary results indicate that telecommuting contributes to: optimizing the use of physical spaces, making it possible to rationalize the institution's common costs; in the significant increase of the average productivity of the servants in telework. Therefore, the results of this research corroborate with the findings in the literature, especially regarding the benefits perceived by the organization, since the adoption of telework shows productivity increase and real possibilities of cost rationalization in the Ministry.
