Abstract

In this article, I defend the centrality of public social services to a development project. In addition to
the overwhelmingly neglected social needs, I explore an array of diverse theoretical justifications which
help sustain that claim. I also delve into the question of how these perspectives relate to contemporary
debates, detail the cascading effects that public social services do trigger, and bring evidence thereof.
