Brasil y China en la nueva ola de innovaciones en el sistema agroalimentario global

Una condición previa para el deseño de políticas públicas y la promoción de formas apropiadas de
gobernanza es una correcta comprensión de las transformaciones en curso en el sistema agroalimentario global y las formas en que éstas afectan a Brasil. Argumentamos que la innovación ha pasado de la agricultura a la alimentación, liderada por actores no comprometidos con el sistema agroalimentario tradicional, pero motivados por preocupaciones globales de seguridad alimentaria. Actualmente, el extraordinario crecimiento económico de China está impulsando la demanda global de proteína animal, con Brasil como su principal proveedor, y aunque la China dependa abrumadoramente de las exportaciones de Brasil, ella se está esforzando por diversificar sus fuentes y modificar sus prácticas de
consumo. En estas estrategias se incluye el apoyo a alternativas radicales de proteína animal.
Concluimos que, aunque las proyecciones oficiales sugieran la continuación de la demanda a largo plazo
de las formas tradicionales de proteína animal, y, por lo tanto, también del dinamismo continuo de los
sectores de granos/carnes de Brasil, la combinación sistemática de las políticas de China de reducir su
dependencia externa requiere que Brasil aborde la necesidad de políticas de reconversión más radicales
que las previstas actualmente.
