Abstract

This study in the executive power of Pernambuco addressed aging and age management in public organizations. The study aimed to understand, from the perspective of workers and of the management, if and how the aging of the workforce has been considered in the personnel management policies and practices of the executive branch organizations of the State of Pernambuco. Focusing on three organizations with a high proportion of workers over 50 years old, the qualitative interpretative study conducted 16 in-depth interviews in Recife to understand the incorporation of aging into personnel management policies. The thematic categorical analysis of the data indicated challenges such as the simultaneous retirement of many workers and a shortage of qualified candidates. From the organizations investigated, a gap was revealed in the preparation for age diversity, highlighting the need for effective strategies for a sustainable work future.
